Established in 1935 as the Convention of the Teachers of the Deaf (CTDI), it became a registered society in 1995.
With its Head Office at Ali Yavar Jung National Institute for the Hearing Handicapped, Mumbai, NCED–India operates through state chapters that regularly hold meetings and conferences addressing regional educational issues.
Its mission is to:
- Empower teachers
- Disseminate the best and evidence-based practices
- Organize annual conferences across India
- Enhance educational services for children with hearing impairments
The Backdrop
NCED–India, through its state chapters, organizes an international conference every year.
These conferences:

- Feature eminent national and international resource persons
- Are supported by state and central government bodies such as AYJNISHD (D)
- Are recognized by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) for CRE (Continuing Rehabilitation Education) points
Each conference attracts over 400 special educators and allied professionals, including speech and hearing experts, mainstream teachers, psychologists, and ISL interpreters.
